Student Testimonials
“Each lesson I’ve had with Rachel has been very productive and rewarding. She’s not only a talented and driven artist using many types of media, she’s also an educated passionate teacher. Her lessons are a good mixture of dedicated guided instruction with creative work time. She has respect for art being about individual expression and she makes sure that our time is spent being constructive.”
-Mark Dees

“My painting ability and overall technique soared under Rachel’s clear patient direction. If you want to acquire top notch expertise – basic or advanced – I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her as a gifted art teacher and communicator.”
-David M. Foster

“Rachel has shown thorough knowledge and great skill. She has demonstrated tremendous flexibility in catering to what works best for me. But most importantly to me, she has exercised great patience. I have been told I don’t take instruction well but Rachel has always found a way to calmly explain things in ways that I can understand.”
-Jesús Fraire

“I’ve taken private painting lessons with Rachel for about a year, after many years of wishing I could paint. Rachel is an excellent teacher! I find her focused and clear and very patient. I’ve painted things I never imagined I could paint due to her attentive guidance. I discovered Rachel by seeing her impressive artwork on display. Her paintings and drawings are superb!

"My mom first took me to Rachel Sellars in the 4th grade. She was a professional, she took a blank parchment and turned into something tremendous. I was amazed. Every Tuesday I would come and she would teach me and, we would talk about art, do studies and make other pieces of my choice. She taught me negative space and shading, drop shadows and more. It felt like an escape from reality. A place where nothing is wrong. I can’t wait to learn more. Someday I want to be an art teacher so I can help others with art the way my art teacher did with me."
